Upheaval

Upheaval is a text-based open world roguelike adventure centered around a remote village.

Master the world's secrets over many short playthroughs (30-90 minutes) as you explore the wilds, use mysterious clues to track down magical treasures, aid or disrupt encroaching factions, and take what you've learned into each new adventure.

Core Features

Your choices matter. Change the balance of power and the fates of everyone you meet - or don't. You can stay in the tavern, go fishing, or ignore everyone and just do your own thing. The choice is completely up to you.

Upheaval is heavily inspired by tabletop RPGs, with choice and consequence at the heart of all design decisions.

Gameplay

Incredibly replayable with thousands of procedurally randomized adventures. Dynamic non-player characters are living, moving people to respond to and interact with, not static encounters. Every game ends differently as the world changes between playthroughs - enemies, NPCs, and treasures are all randomized with specialized interactions.

You can't die in Upheaval. Failure doesn't mean death; there's always a way forward, even if it's not the way you wanted to go.

Customization

Relaxed Mode allows you to turn off the in-game time limit and explore at your own pace. The Magician's Shrine provides immersive, in-universe cheats to adjust difficulty however you like.

Content

A rich history surrounds your village with secrets hidden in the beautiful and treacherous landscape. Choose from eight different starting quests, with all twelve big quests available each game, each with multiple completion methods and consequences that depend on the world's situation.
