Capcom's long-awaited sci-fi action-adventure Pragmata will launch on April 17, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch 2 (with the Japanese/Asian Switch 2 version releasing April 24). After years of cryptic trailers, multiple delays, and radio silence, Capcom is finally delivering this mysterious project. The April 2026 window comes roughly six years after the game's initial 2020 reveal, pointing to significant scope, ambition, and likely internal reworks during development.
AI Horror Meets Japanese Sci-Fi#
Pragmata is set on a derelict lunar research station controlled by a rogue AI called IDUS. Players control spacefarer Hugh alongside an android companion, Diana, as they attempt to escape while confronting the horrors of artificial intelligence. The narrative draws on themes of technology gone wrong, isolation, and existential dread, territory Capcom knows well from its survival horror roots in Resident Evil.
What sets Pragmata apart is its hybrid gameplay: a third-person hacking-and-shooting system where Hugh provides firepower while Diana hacks enemy systems, environmental barriers, and security grids. This tactical loop adds puzzle-like depth to combat and exploration. Complementing the intimate, atmospheric tension are large-scale giant robot kaiju boss battles, massive mechanical foes that demand positioning, dodging laser attacks, and coordinated hack-and-shoot tactics. These epic encounters pull from Japan's rich mecha and tokusatsu traditions, creating a striking contrast between oppressive horror and spectacular set pieces.
