Emergency Maintenance Underway
According to Funcom, all Dune: Awakening servers have been shut down for emergency maintenance to fix a critical exploit. The bug allowed players to destroy entire bases, with affected players reporting devastating losses.
One player stated they "lost my base and 1k hours of progress" due to the exploit, highlighting the severity of the issue for the game's community.
Another Exploit in Quick Succession
This emergency shutdown comes on the heels of another recent exploit, marking the second major vulnerability Funcom has had to address in quick succession. The developer has prioritized this fix, taking the unusual step of shutting down all servers simultaneously rather than implementing a rolling fix.
The exploit specifically targeted base integrity, one of the core progression systems in the survival MMO. Bases represent significant time investment for players, containing resources, crafting stations, and defensive structures accumulated over hundreds of hours of gameplay.
What This Means for Players
Funcom has not yet announced an estimated timeline for when servers will come back online. The studio is working to not only patch the exploit but also assess the damage and determine what, if any, rollbacks or compensation may be necessary for affected players.
Have you been impacted by this exploit? What measures do you think Funcom should take to make things right for affected players?
