Duskfade Brings a Love Letter to 3D Action Platformers to Summer Game Fest 2026
Weird Beluga's nostalgic adventure follows a workshop apprentice racing to save his sister and undo an eternal night.
If you grew up grinding rails and double-jumping through the golden age of mascot platformers, Duskfade is aiming straight for that nostalgia. The game resurfaced at The MIX Summer Game Showcase, which aired June 1, 2026 as part of Summer Game Fest week, this time with a new gameplay/demo launch trailer rather than a first reveal (it was originally announced back in April 2025). This 3D action-platformer from developer Weird Beluga Studio, published by Fireshine Games, wears its inspirations proudly. Think Ratchet & Clank and Jak and Daxter, with a heavy dose of Kingdom Hearts, right down to a Keyblade-esque weapon that's even used as an actual key to unlock chests hidden throughout the world.
A workshop apprentice against eternal night#
You play as Zirian, a young workshop apprentice who sets out with a mechanical companion named Cuckoo to rescue his sister, Allira, from a mysterious Clock Tower that has plunged the world into eternal night. Beneath the bright visuals, though, it's pitched as something more personal: a story shaped by memory, grief, and the echoes of the siblings' past, set in a clockpunk world built by the so-called Master Clockmakers. The promise is a journey across a strikingly varied universe of ethereal forests, underwater realms, sunlit dunes, and cloudy heights, all teeming with secrets to uncover.
Movement that's all about feel#
What stands out is the focus on feel. Weird Beluga is leaning into combat and traversal meant to be electric and snappy, using the chains of your sword as a hook to soar through the sky, or moving at high speed on rails across the landscape, with everything designed to feel fast and agile. The vibrant, fantastical art style backs up the throwback ambitions without looking dated. Worth noting the studio's pedigree, too: this is the team behind 2021's Clid the Snail, an award-winning debut that came out of Sony's PlayStation Talents program.

Release window and how to play now#
Duskfade is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, still with a 2026 release window, though there's no firm date yet. A demo has been on Steam since September 25, 2025, for anyone who wants to test the momentum themselves, covering a condensed version of the first level that ends in a boss fight. It's gone over well, sitting at "Very Positive" across nearly 300 reviews. One caveat: that demo is PC/Steam only for now, so console players will have to wait.
